wwwpic5678 Sol Bamba was the only Cardiff player named in either the EFL or PFA Championship Teams of the Year, despite the fact Neil Warnock's side are closing in on a remarkable promotion to the Premier League. Cardiff's success has been built more on team effort than individual performances, but should more of their players have been included? We take a look at three who deserved more recognition...

Signed from Walsall on a free transfer, Etheridge has been fantastic between the sticks and undeniably deserves more credit for his performances in 2017/18. The 28-year-old has only missed one league game all season, and that was a 2-1 defeat to QPR on New Year's Day, conceding fewer goals (33) than John Ruddy (36), while the Wolves goalkeeper made both the EFL and PFA Teams of the Year. Should Cardiff be promoted and Etheridge keep the No 1 jersey, then it would be a surprise return to the Premier League for the former Fulham academy player. He spent eight years at Craven Cottage but never made an appearance in the top flight. wwwpic5678

Sean Morrison
Bamba was named in the PFA Team of the Year, but the Cardiff captain has just as much of a case for inclusion as his central defensive partner. Morrison has kept as many clean sheets as Bamba (14) in seven fewer appearances and it's not too surprising that his absence in December coincided with the club's major dip of the season, as the Bluebirds lost four games in a row over Christmas. He has also scored four goals this campaign, including a vital goal strike in a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in February, and won a remarkable 358 aerial duels, 91 more than Wolves pair Willy Boly and Conor Coady combined.

Junior Hoilett
Hoilett waited for Warnock to find a club in the summer of 2016 before joining him at Cardiff, and their relationship has proved incredibly fruitful for the Bluebirds. The winger has enjoyed the finest season of his career and is finally showing signs of fulfilling the potential he showed at Blackburn in the Premier League. Hoilett has scored fewer goals than the likes of Bobby Reid, Albert Adomah and Matej Vydra, who all received recognition in the Teams of the Year, but has as many assists (11) as Reid and Adomah combined, and has created significantly more chances (80) than all three. wwwpic5678

Manchester City can prove their greatness this season, they don't need title after title to be brilliant... plus Arsene Wenger remembered, but not always in the right way
maxbet Literally the article you wrote about Manchester City. You’re paid for this? Paul Banks, Tokyo. You literally wrote the same thing about Pep Guardiola last week. Baz, Manchester. Is this a copy-paste of the recent article: ‘Pep doesn't need a plan B...’ Cavill, Guernsey. Nope. Not even slightly. He is writing about the same idea but with more conviction for anyone interested in understanding the game beyond their club affiliation. Freedomforustoo, Cape Town.
Well, at least someone gets it. The first article inspired the second but, while the sentiment may be the same, the subject isn’t. The initial mention of Guardiola’s plan A was pretty much an aside in an article published in tribute after Manchester City won the title. It was one sentence which, in its entirety, read: ‘Guardiola, it is said, has no plan B: yet why would we wish for negative, conservative thoughts, when plan A is so bright, so bold?’ That was it. It was intended to briefly deal with one of the criticisms frequently aimed at the man and the copy quickly moved on. But this thought was then selected for the headline; and, as we know, that’s all many below the line commenters respond to. maxbet
They are too busy posting to actually read what has been written. So the majority of the comments addressed this ‘no plan B’ argument and ignored the rest. That started me thinking, about the vacuity of much criticism of managers for having no plan B. I was going to address it here, in Five Points, but I thought that might get too repetitious: same posts, same points, same counter-arguments, around, around, around we go, as Digital Underground had it. And I thought it was a wider subject, a bigger subject, because it’s a criticism that is trotted out so frequently these days but with such little thought.
So I decided that with Liverpool playing a big match on Tuesday, and Jurgen Klopp being another manager regularly accused of not having a plan B, I could deal with it in a column. And, yes, the headlines on the two pieces are very similar, and maybe I should have spotted that. But that doesn’t make the actual articles the same. The plan A thought in the Manchester City piece amounts to 25 words of 1,250. It is one part of an overall theme and being used as the headline affords greater substance than it merits. maxbet
